Dean T. Bennett, Esq. is of counsel to Townsend, Tomaio & Newmark, LLC. Mr. Bennett earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago in English Language and Literature with a minor concentration in European History. He earned his juris doctorate from New York Law School, where he served as editor of The Human Rights Annual and president of the NYLS Media Law Project. Mr. Bennett is admitted to the Bars of the States of New Jersey and New York, the U.S. District Court of the State of New Jersey and the U.S. District courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
Mr. Bennett brings more than 30 years of family law experience to our firm. Mr. Bennett’s family law practice has been enriched by his broad background litigating in other disciplines which often present issues relevant to family law matters. While he seeks practical, negotiated resolutions when appropriate, Mr. Bennett is a seasoned trial attorney and a fearless courtroom advocate who is committed to achieving optimal outcomes for his clients.
Mr. Bennett is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association and the Essex County Bar Association and a past member of the Arthur T. Vanderbilt Inns of Court. Mr. Bennett regularly serves as a court-approved Early Settlement Panelist and “blue ribbon” panelist in Essex County.
From 1995 to 2005, Mr. Bennett served with distinction as the designated public defender for the City of Summit, New Jersey bar foundation. In that capacity, he frequently was appointed as guardian ad litem for children subject parental rights termination proceedings. He was the appointed law guardian for the minor child in the Matter of the Guardianship of K.H.O. 161 N.J. 337 (1999)
Mr. Bennett was recently invited to lecture at the New York University School of Dentistry on the topic of legal and ethical considerations in reporting suspected cases of domestic abuse by dental professionals.
